R.J. Umberger (born Richard Umberger May 3, 1982 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American professional ice hockey player who plays for the Philadelphia Flyers.

[edit] Playing career

Initially drafted in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft 16th overall by the Vancouver Canucks, Umberger has spent most of his career with Ohio State University. He joined the Flyers in 2005, and was called up to the Flyers roster in the 2005-06 NHL season. He scored his first career NHL goal on November 22, 2005 for the Flyers against the Tampa Bay Lightning. R.J. began his career with the USA National Team Developmental Program after a successful developmental career with the Pittsburgh Hornets. On July 6, 2006, the Flyers announced that they had signed him to a two year contract.
