RE: Your message to me.

I've been honestly conflicted about including both "Canadian Football League players" & "(CFL team name) players" for each player bio. I'd normally be inclined to leave it at "[CFL team name] players" category, and that's it ... but when you look @ the "Category:Canadian Football League players" section, it's strewn full of CFL players ... thereby creating my conflict about it! [edit] CFL Playoff brackets

I think it is cool that there is a playoff bracket, but there is no signals or signs that states the dates or the home team. Luckily, that information is in the 93rd Grey Cup article. However, we should ask him not to make any changes to other articles unless those types of information is saved and if possible he can add them to the brackets. However, the seasons where the playoffs are complicated (60's - 70's) are off-limits, because I don't see how you can make a simple World Cup type playoff bracket. Hi, thanks for the suggestion - a friend let me know about this feature as soon as I created the new page. I only think that this might be a special case since the only content from the original page that ended up on the new one was - partially - the first line; everything else was rewritten in what I hope is a more formal tone. I do agree that the history may have been useful to keep, but then again when I read the first article I felt it was so poorly written that it was probably a first revision that some guy thought it would be cool to start, e.g. nothing really worth keeping (not as if it's "gone" now, anyways).

That would be GREAT if you could get a copy of the current (or near current) CFL record book and check the stats for the Khari Jones article. What the U.S. and Canada call "Football" is different than what the rest of the world means by "football", i.e., "soccer". The naming convention makes the distinction clear. The links are red because as I was changing some links in an article I changed all the ones that had "(football player)"; I just haven't caught up to moving the referenced articles yet. All the links will function again. Thanks.

The convention I'm using is that the "American" or "Canadian" is determined by which country the player is currently playing for. The articles generally give the current position of the player first and then add that they played elsewhere.

As for the changes in general, I was being bold. There have been articles with "(football player)", "(Football Player)", "(American football player)", "(football)", etc. Surely some sort of standardization is a good thing? What I've done can also be adapted for the soccer players as well; "Brazilian football", "Australian football", etc. They're not consistent, either; that's a project for someone else that wants it.—Chidom talk  07:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I understand your misgivings about players who frequently move back and forth between the countries; however, how many of them are likely to actually need any sort of designation after their name? It's only being done in cases where there's a need to distinguish an athlete from a politician, actor, etc.

My profound apologies for all of this. I recently discovered Wikipedia:Naming conventions, which says, in part:

"If you wish to propose a new naming convention, do so on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions, and also explain the proposal at Requests for comment and the Village Pump, as well as at any related pages. Once a strong consensus has formed, it can be adopted as a naming convention and listed below." (on the naming convention list)

I won't go into a long, drawn-out explanation of how I got started on this; suffice it to say that there is a gay porn star with the same name as a football player.

I've now finished updating all the article links so that they bypass the redirect pages that were created when I moved the original pages. I've also been informed that this was incorrect as well, and there's a whole section on it at Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken.

In my own defense, my changing all the redirect links may save server time (and money) in the future. Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups/About fixing redirects states: "In other words, readers of Wikipedia would have to use a redirect link about 10,000 times before it would be worthwhile to replace that link with a direct link." Arguably, most of these links will be used 10,000 times or more.

Lastly, let me apologize again for the confusion this has caused and reiterate that I am bowing out of the discussion. I feel that a convention does need to be created, but I'm not all that big a sports fan to start with, so I'll leave it to folks more familiar with the nuances.

I am just wondering if you have the svg program to allow pictures to appear on wikipedia? Because currently I don't have a program, is it possible that you can go from the 87th Grey Cup to the 83rd Grey Cup to get the Grey Cup logos to appear?

If you can it would be greatly appreciated. Also about the CFL USA if you want I did every CFL USA team for the exception of the Baltimore Stallions because it is linked to the Montreal Alouettes, whatever information that you want to add about the failures and little success about the franchises and the market it would be located on those team pages. The information is important but I moved it to the main page were it's more relevant. Look at major television shows episode lists and you won't see any season information. you gotta meet in the middle. The information was moved to the main page. Thanks for your helpful edits on the old Grey Cup games I'm trying to make pages for. I've also been going through more recent games trying to improve the tone of some of the articles, which look like they have been copied from newspaper reports, and tighten them up. I ran into a snag with the 82nd Grey Cup where Bestghuran reverted the changes. Since I had explained my changes in depth on the talk page and he said nothing at all I have reverted his but I don't want to get into a revert war. Would you be so kind as to have a look at the page and my comments on the talk page and give your opinion? First off, thanks for all your contributions to The Office pages. Secondly, I don't know how long they'll last up there, but thanks for restoring those MySpace blog citations. I understand why Wikipedia wouldn't accept them as proper citation anymore, but they should be acceptable in certain cases (ie. performer's behind-the-scenes info on the set of a television series). :) Anyway, thanks again. Why are you removing this tag from articles? Many of these articles have hideously large trivia sections with information that can be either integrated into the prose or removed altogether.--Drat (Talk) 07:23, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

The problem is that these massive lists become/are magnets for original research and unencyclopedic info. Also, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Please also read Wikipedia:Avoid trivia sections in articles.--Drat (Talk) 07:41, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
I've watched this unfold over the last couple minutes on my watchlist, and I'd like to offer a suggestion. Instead of reverting each other, stop editing the trivia tags and talk it out. Removing the non-binding tag, no matter how valid, is perfectly acceptable. This is a wiki, it happens. The same is true for adding it, someone felt that the article had too much trivia. The whole idea of cleanup tags is to point out that a section or article needs cleaning up. Ideally, there shouldn't be trivia sections at all. As for your argument here, we don't need that level of detail, as it is indiscriminate information, and a lot of it is best suited to fansites. As I said before trivia should be either integrated where appropriate, or removed altogther. Please refrain from removing the {{toomuchtrivia}} tags on the Boeing 727, Boeing 737, and Boeing 747 pages. The have been added for reasons specific to WikiProject Aircraft guidelines to alert and remind editors to place the trivia section items within the text as they can. I respect your right to disagree with the placement of the tags, but would rather you discuss them first on the aircraft talk pages or the project talk page first, rather than deleting the tags on your own.
