Quogue, New York

Quogue is an incorporated village in Southampton, Suffolk County, New York on the South Shore of Long Island. As of the United States 2000 Census, the hamlet population was 1,018.

Quogue is located at (40.822723, -72.601319)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 17.2 km² (6.7 mi²). 10.9 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and 6.3 km² (2.4 mi²) of it (36.69%) is water.

There were 453 households out of which 22.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.75.
In the village the population was spread out with 17.7% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 34.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $72,083, and the median income for a family was $76,296. Males had a median income of $66,875 versus $42,917 for females. The per capita income for the village was $50,323. About 6.3% of families and 7.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.2% of those under age 18 and 7.0% of those age 65 or over.
A large percentage of the houses are second homes owned by people who live or work in Manhattan, and use their Quogue homes on weekends or for the summer. These "manhattanites" are usually WASP's from old money families and are members of the elite preppy social scene.
