Qulliq Energy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Qulliq Energy Corporation is a Crown Corporation owned by the Government of Nunavut. It was established by the Nunavut Power Utilities Act, now the Qulliq Energy Corporation Act. Previously power had been supplied to Nunavut by the Northwest Territories Power Corporation, an NWT company from 1988 to 2001, and its predecessor the Northern Canada Power Commission, a Canada crown corporation from 1958-1988.

Two key documents, the Ikuma I report which discusses the benefits and anticipated problems of an independent electricity provider in Nunavut, and the Ikuma II report, which addresses the re-birth of the electricity provider as a more general energy company, can be found on the largely outdated corporate website [1].

Discussions continue to emerge and then re-submerge on the issue of the possible combination of the fuel delivery and electricity functions in Nunavut under the new Qulliq Energy project.

Nunavut Power is the tradename still (2006) used by the electricity generating function of Qulliq Energy Corporation. This link provides a more extended corporate history.
