Talk:Quiché (department)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
in spanish it is "departamento de Quiché". I suggest to move "El Quiché" to Quiché (department). Tobias Conradi (Talk) 05:51, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
How about El Quiché department though it as actually known in Guatemala as El Quiché, while I have never heard it called Quiché, and have edited the article to reflect this. Generally saying departamento de is about like saying the county of in English and seems long winded, SqueakBox 15:37, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- Looking at various listings on the national stats agency's page (http://www.ine.gob.gt/), it seems Tobias is right. Or take a look at the Congress page. The depts are listed as Quiché and Petén ("El Progreso", however, gets its article). Everyone says me voy al Quiché or estuve en El Petén but I suspect that's a form of familiar verbal shorthand, not entirely relevant to the official names of the departments. –Hajor 16:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
