Quilicura, Chile

Quilicura is a municipality and comuna of Chile located on the northwest of the province of Santiago, in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. It was originally on the outskirts of the city of Santiago, but as urban sprawl has set in it is now quickly urbanizing from what was recently prime agricultural land. It has an area of 57.5 km², a population of 126,518 (2002 census) and the population continues to grow very rapidly; there is an average household income of $17,509 in PPP US dollars (2000).
The mayor is Carmen Romo. People from Quilicura are known as Quilicuranos (Quilicurans).
