OS: Windows
Use: video codec bundle
Website: QuickTime Alternative

QuickTime Alternative is a codec package for Microsoft Windows created for playing QuickTime files (.MOV) with any video player that supports DirectShow. Normally, Apple's official QuickTime software is required to play back QuickTime .MOV video files.

QuickTime Alternative uses codecs taken from QuickTime 7. As such, its legitimacy has come into question as neither is the codec package a licensed Apple product, nor is that specific version of QuickTime available free of charge.[citation needed]

Also included are a pre-release version of CoreAVC and the latest version of CoreAAC, as well as Media Player Classic and the QuickTime web browser plugin, which supports Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Mozilla and Netscape.
