Talk:Query by humming

I changed this sentence:

For the mass public this system means an iPod with a built-in microphone that allows for faster searching through MP3 files.

to this

One example of this would be a system involving a portable media player with a built-in microphone that allows for faster searching through media files.

as it is more neutral and more accurate. I'm pretty sure the idea if not the term preceeded iPods. The first I heard of it was 2 years or more ago I believe where they were suggestion you would call up a number (perhaps on your mobile) and hum the song. Current implementations include pre-existing databases. Indeed, this makes a lot of sense since altho sometimes you may want to find a song you've already got but can't remember the title of, a lot of the time someone might want to find out the name of a song they have heard or have in their head but don't know name of, perhaps so they can put it in their portable media player (altho of course sometimes it may turn out it's already in the player). Also, iPod is obviously not particularly neutral since there are lots of other media devices Nil Einne 12:22, 25 August 2006 (UTC) P.S. looking at the article I see it links to a 1995 article which I guess is the first known published paper on the idea which supports my above view Nil Einne 12:25, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
