[edit] Tolkien hated cats claim

Where did the assertion "Tolkien hated cats" come from? I've never heard that said before. If it's true, I'd love to find out the source. If someone's read it somewhere, it'd be nice to have something like, "Acording to _______, Tolkien hated cats." If it's supposition on the part of the author, it should either be removed or changed to say something like, "Based upon what he says in his poem '______,' as well as _______, some have surmised that Tolkien may have had a personal distaste for cats."

Three sources are Humphrey Carpenter in the biography, Christopher Tolkien in the HoME, and Professor Tolkien himself in his letters. -- Jordi· 21:55, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
I notice this assertion has been removed. Does anyone feel it should go back in? -- Jordi· 09:47, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Excerpt

It only just occurs to me that the excerpt listed is something like the "Hey Diddle Diddle" poem Tolkien had written- in that it is bad luck for a black cat to cross your path, you can see the comparison within the exceprt to the anecdote.

[edit] Political outcome of the divorce

The article states that 'it is speculated that' the failed marriage further soured relations between Gondor and Umbar. By whom? Is there a reference? I'm editing out that part.

If you are not sure where something comes from, it is best to use Template:ME-fact to add a "citation needed" tag. It will also place the article in a category that people can check for articles that they can help improve with citations. Carcharoth 14:18, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
