StarCraft: Queen of Blades is a StarCraft novel written by Aaron Rosenberg and authorized by Blizzard Entertainment, the company that created the hit video game StarCraft. It is available as a softcover and an e-book.
The book takes place during StarCraft Episode II, approximately six weeks after the capture of Sarah Kerrigan by the Zerg, and extends into Episode III.
[edit] Plot
On Tarsonis, Zerg are protecting a chrysalis and leave for a volcanic planet known as Char.
Jim Raynor and Arcturus Mengsk received visions from the slowly transforming Kerrigan. Mengsk sends his henchman General Duke to Char, the source of the visions. Raynor also follows. The two sides skirmish but Raynor's forces spend most of their time fighting the Zerg on the planet.
The novel covers the meeting of Raynor, Tassadar and Zeratul and the assassination of the Zerg Cerebrate Zasz by Zeratul.
Michael Liberty from StarCraft: Liberty's Crusade makes a cameo in the novel. The Cerebrate that serves as the player's character in Episode II also makes an appearance, as does Artanis as the Executor the player controls in Episode III.
[edit] Errors
The book contains the following canonical errors:
- Zerg have no respiratory tract. However, in the book, they do.
- Jim Raynor had access to his Vulture Speederbike. In the book he does not.
- Raynor had a massive base, instead of the small strike force featured in the novel.
- The sequence of events around the death of Zasz were very different. In the game, Tassadar and Zeratul had already formed an alliance at this time. In the novel, Zeratul slew Zasz before he even met Tassadar.
- Later during the Zerg missions, Kerrigan destroys a substantial portion of the Protoss base and slew many Dark Templar, eventually capturing Zeratul and a number of Dark Templar. In the novel, the Zerg lost the battle heavily rather than winning. Kerrigan's only Brood (the one she used to capture Zeratul) was driven insane (at least temporarily) when Tassadar slew her Cerebrate.
