Questioning

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A question is a linguistic expression used to elict information in the form of an answer. Questioning is a major form of human thought and interpersonal communication, and plays a key role in discovery (observation) (what's over there?), invention (how could I make this work better?) and interpersonal communication (can you help me fix my car this afternoon?).

Other uses of the term include:

  • In sexual orientation (and less commonly gender identity), a phase or period where an individual re-assesses (however privately or openly) the orientation/identity that they have either asserted for themselves, or been brought up as. This most commonly happens when a person socialised as heterosexual and cisgendered internally challenges one or both of those presumptions, often leading to them coming out as LGB/Queer and/or Transgendered. Further questionings can occur later in life when the person reconsiders their previous conclusion about to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
  • Scepticism, a state of uncertainty or doubt, or of challenging a previously-held belief.
