Queensland Youth Orchestras

The Queensland Youth Orchestras organization (QYO) is based at the Old Museum building in Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills, Queensland, Australia.

QYO consists of three symphony orchestras, two concert bands, a junior string orchestra, a chamber orchestra and a big band which all participate in concerts, tutorials, camps and tours. The ages, of the performers in QYO, range from pre-teen to young adult.

The leading QYO orchestra, the Queensland Youth Symphony (QYS, conducted by John Curro AM MBE) Orchestra, tours internationally every four years and is frequently given the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world's most renowned musicians and vocalists.

John Curro AM MBE: Conductor of QYS (Queensland Youth Symphony previously known as QYO1) and founder of QYO. He established the National Youth Concerto Competition (NYCC).

Sergei Korschmin: Sergei is the conductor of QYO2 (Second Queensland Youth Orchestra) since 2003. He founded and conducted the Mackay Symphony Orchestra. Sergei Korschmin official website

Bradley Voltz: Bradley Voltz is the conductor of QYO3 since 1998.

Peter Morris: Conductor of WS (Wind Symphony) since 2007.

Katrina Mothershaw: Conductor of WE (Wind Ensemble) since its founding in 1999.

Chen Yang: Chen Yang is the conductor of JSE (Junior String Ensemble). He first joined QYO in 1975 and was the concertmaster of QYS during 1978 to 1980.
