[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Holly's increasing fallibility results in him being replaced by the backup computer; The Queeg 500. Queeg runs things strictly by the book: Lister and the Cat are forced to work for their food, while Rimmer is put through the regulation 500 jerks and three-mile run every day - whether he is conscious or not - whilst old Holly is relegated to night-watchman. It is more than he can eventually take and so he challenges Queeg to a contest to determine who will run Red Dwarf. Holly fails miserably at Chess ("horsie to bish three!") and the crew dread a lifetime of being run by Queeg. Just as Holly is saying goodbye to the crew, as he is about to be wiped from the databanks completely, he declares it a practical joke and that he was Queeg the whole time. He could hardly keep that one in until April.

[edit] Trivia

  • Queeg was named after the captain in the novel The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk. Wouk would latter be mentioned in the episode Marooned
  • Charles Augins, who played Queeg was also the choreographer for the "Tongue Tied" segment in Parallel Universe, and was featured in the music video that accompanied Danny John-Jules's commercial release of the song.
