The shield of Queen's University. Based on the arms of the University of Edinburgh, the Queen's coat-of-arms features the blue St. Andrew's cross, dividng the four sections containing the Canadian pine, the English rose, the Irish clover, and the Scottish thistle. The dominant colours of red, gold, and blue represent the three original faculties: arts and sciences, applied science, and medicine. The traditional Queen's crowns are featured on the border of the shield, and signify the fact that Queen's possesses a Royal Charter from Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The motto is translated as "Wisdom and Knowledge Shall Be the Stability of Thy Times."
