Quatloo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Quatloo is a fictional currency that featured in the Star Trek episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion". The currency was used by the disembodied Providers of Triskelion. Having grown bored with their supreme intelligence, "the Providers" were reduced to betting on the outcome of gladiatorial competition between their captives. Wagers were made in Quatloos.

The betting of Quatloos has become an in-joke within fandom ("I bet you five quatloos Star Trek: Enterprise won't run for five seasons.")

[edit] Trivia

  • Quatloos have been mentioned in episodes of the Matt Groening created series The Simpsons and Futurama, along with many other Star Trek references.
  • Quatloos were also mentioned in a Johnny Bravo episode, as a grand prize in a galactic jeopardy quiz called "Who Wants to Amass Quatloos".
  • A fan parody clip known as "The Drugsters of Triskelion" appeared on YouTube and features the three "brains" betting quaaludes (instead of Quatloos) on the outcome of the thrall fights.
  • In the computer game "Might and Magic 4" Quatloos are given to you by the scattered "frat brothers".
  • It has been suggested that Jay D. Adkisson's anti-scam website, Quatloos![1], was named after this currency unit, although Adkisson denies it.
