[edit] Team 1601
Quantum Samurai Team #1601 is a FIRST robotics affiliated team from Aviation High School in Long Island City, NY. Established in 2005, the team competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition at the SBPLI Long Island Regional at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.Despite being a New York City based team, they always have been based at the SBPLI Long Island Regional. In their rookie year in 2005 during the Triple Play (FIRST) game, the team was expected to advance into further rounds. Unfortunatley, an error accounted by one of the scorekeepers/judges at the SBPLI regional had slated Team #1607 to proceed into further rounds. Despite the error, Quantum Samurai accepted the mistake and rather than leaving the regional, they stayed and cheered on the other teams on the field. It was QS1601's gracious professionalism which led the team to winning two of the three Rookie awards sending shock waves to other Long Island teams as Quantum Samurai's roots are in New York City, and they were just rookies. They won the Highest Rookie Seed Award and the Rookie Inspiration Award. These two awards served as a stepping stone for the team to accel into the 2006 regional. During the Aim High (FIRST) game they won the 2nd most prestigious adward given at any FIRST regional competition. Quantum Samurai was only a meager 3 points away from winning the Chairman's Award. Had they won, it would have been a historic win. Awards such as the Chairman's and Engineering Inspiration are usually won by veteran teams. Quantum Samurai forever changed that criteria. Their wonderful spirit and strong attitute to go foward, learn, and succeed is a major key to their success. The Engineering Inspiration Adward won by just a second year team was unheard of, and Quantum Samurai made history as being that team. In April 2006, Quantum Samurai fully competed in the National Competition in Atlanta. Quantum Samurai won the Chairman's Award at the 2007 SBPLI regional and was invited to the national championships.
