Quaid-i-Azam University is the largest public-sector university located in Islamabad, Pakistan. Founded as the university of Islamabad in 1965, it was later renamed in 1976 as Quaid-i-Azam University after the honorific title of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan and its first Governal General.
The university is best known for its qualiy of education. Particularly, its highly regarded Department of Defence and Strategic Studies is one of the few specialist departments dedicated to the subject in Asia, indeed the world.
The University was founded in 1965 as a national institution for higher learning and research and named University of Islamabad. The University was renamed Quaid-i-Azam University in 1976 at the time of centenary celebrations of the Founder of Pakistan. The University is recognised in Pakistan and abroad, as an institution of high standards and its graduates receive acceptance in universities and research institutions the world over. The University has established research collaboration with selected universities in the United States, Europe and South Asia. The University is rated as one of the top public institutions of higher education in Pakistan with its qualified teams of teachers and researchers. More than 80% of the teachers hold doctoral degrees with experience of working in renowned universities of the world. The University has the distinction of having a large number of distinguished scientists and educationists as its faculty members, some holding national awards and international recognition. The senior staff in each department holds a position of prominence and high standing in their area of expertise and university staff assists the public and private sectors in a consultative and advisory capacity. University provides congenial research environment to its faculty and students. So far university has the subscription of several internationally reputed journals via university intranet. Due to its excellence its been ranked as best university in "General" category of Pakistan Universities by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan

- Mustafa Ali Malik, M.Sc Geophysics (1996-1998), Working as "Senior Reservoir Geophysicist" with Petronas Caragali in Kuala Lumpur. He have worked also in Saudi Aramco, ZADCO and Landmark Graphics (a Subsidiary of Halliburton Co.). His expertises are in 3D Seismic, 4D/4C Seismic, Seismic attribute analysis and interpretation and 3D Visualization Centers. He has been responsible for providing consultancy and designing ZADCO and ADMA-OPCO visualization Centers in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
