[edit] Main Features
Out of the box, the TS-101 has the following features:
-
- File Server (the storage of large amounts of data on the internal SATA hard disk in the TS-101.)
- Multimedia Station (a web interface used to manage images, audio or video files, and print or play photos by slide show.)
- Download Station (a p2p bittorrent application to download files without using a PC.)
- Mirror Station (allows you to mirror data in the TS-101 to a USB hard drive or the latest released eSATA hard drive box.)
- Disaster Recovery (remote disk backup over internet/local network connections to another storage device.)
- Web Server (serves static web content by default; the latest firmware upgrade supports SQL and PHP.)
- Printer Server (connect a USB printer to the USB port of TS-101 to enable printer sharing across multiple computers.)
- FTP Server (permits FTP access to the data on the TS-101.)
[edit] SlimServer on the TS-101
The box supports SlimServer software, an open source Perl based audio server supported by Slim Devices to run. This is available as an optional upgrade through some suppliers.
The SlimServer functionality on QNAP TS-101 is an option and there is a support community actively involved in commenting and creating new features/plugins for the QNAP SlimServer solution.
There is a dedicated support forum for SlimServer on the QNAP on the Slim Devices forums [2].

[edit] Installing SlimServer Updates to QNAP
Software updates and open source plugins are available from Progressive AV [3]
Update files are simply stored on your TS-101 in the Update folder on Public share. When the file/s are there re-boot your TS-101 to install them automatically.
For the older updates like:
-
- All-In-One Update
- SlimServer 6.2.2
- SlimServer Database Clear
you need to use .tar.gz as extension
For the more recent updates like:
-
- SlimServer 6.3.1
- All-In-One Plugin Update for SS 6.3.x
you need to use .tar as extension (not .tar.gz).
[edit] QNAP Updates
As of 29th August 2006, the latest TS-101 firmware also supports uPnP media sharing on your network.
