Qali

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Qali was a semi-recurring character in the TV show Mortal Kombat: Conquest portrayed by African-American model Roshumba Williams.

Qali was in Conquest on more than one occasion, but is not a main character. She is skilled in martial arts, but never thinks for herself, working for whatever evil needs assistance (Shang Tsung and/or Quan Chi, utimately, Shao Kahn). She is first introduced as a betrayer. She is from Edenia, much like Kitana and Rain, however she cares much less for her homeland than others. Her major episode, is "Festival of Death", in which she Returns to Zhu Zin hosting a circus-like festival where fighters compete.

Qali has never been mentioned or seen in the canon MK video game storylines, however, it is most likely Qali was created to fulfill the role of Jade, who was Kitana's childhood best friend from Edenia and subsequently betrayed her by secretly allying with Shao Kahn. It is possible that due to Jade's inacurate portrayal in the Mortal Kombat Annihilation film, the makers felt they needed to create a new character (Qali) to fill her role rather than having two different Jades. Qali could also be modelled on Tanya, who was introduced in the Mortal Kombat 4 video game. She resembles her in that she is from Edenia, dark skinned, and a betrayer.
