[edit] License tagging for Image:Andromeda crew.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Andromeda crew.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Babylon 5

"My image is the biggest and coolest" is not a particularly helpful way to discuss image selection for an encyclopedia. Also, since you decided to sling around terms like "vandalism", please review the definition of vandalism at Wikipedia:Vandalism, thanks. Thank you, and happy editing. -Harmil 18:12, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Addamsfamily.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Addamsfamily.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Quentin X 10:28, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Please stop uploading utterly crap images to Wikipedia, and please read WP:IMAGE, none of your images comply with policies/guidelines. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 13:10, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Indeed, the new version is certainly better. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 15:45, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-consensus edits of Hard science fiction article

No, I believe the section you are trying to add violates WP:NOT. You want to create a list of four, then seven writers, but by creating an unqualified list, other editors will add names indiscriminately. Avt tor 20:15, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:'Young'Dracula.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:'Young'Dracula.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. [edit] hard versus Soft science fiction

In the article for Soft science fiction it mentions that Asimov fits in that category, but you are adding the category for Hard science fiction to numerous SF articles relating to him. What's going on? —ScouterSig 21:02, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Hard science fiction needs clarification

Hi, you created Category:Hard science fiction a few days back and there's been some discussion in the category talk page you should probably contribute to. Specifically, what sort of inclusion criteria are there for a category like this? It looks like you've already had some debate along these lines over on hard science fiction, and some of the same standards apply. Bryan Derksen 05:21, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I have nominated Category:Hard science fiction for deletion. The inclusion criteria seem too subjective for use in Wikipedia, even if external sources can be found that declare something to be "hard science fiction". You may comment at WP:CFD. Dr. Submillimeter 11:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I disagree with your assessment. Category:Military science fiction is empirically defined; it is easy to identify science fiction stories where military conflict constitute major parts of the storylines. Category:Hard science fiction is not defined as clearly. Determining whether a story contains enough "real science" or "technical detail" requires subjectively interpreting the category. Such subjective criteria are not good for categories. Dr. Submillimeter 14:20, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
You do not understand. Who is going to judge whether a story contains "hard science"? Most science fiction stories would fail my standards, but they might be acceptable to you. We cannot categorize based on people's opinion. We need empirical criteria. Dr. Submillimeter 15:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Re. the above: I have been using the criteria given in the article description, which match my understanding of the genre. Recently, I removed three entries (from the article), which you have been persistently adding back. So I will explain them here: from the criteria given in the article, Robinson fails immediately: he violates laws of physics on a regular basis and does not explore the technical implications of the modifications he invokes. Similarly, 2001 and 2010 fail because of things like the Star Child. The Andromeda Strain is awash with contradictions, such as an organism being able to replicate in vaccuum on a metal substrate while being subjected to an ion probe yet not being able to survive a slightly changed concentration of hydrogen ions in a fluid environment. Contact is at the edge: it invokes a lot of different ideas, but Sagan did explore them carefully. Michaelbusch 17:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
