[edit] Plot Summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

After two famous people, Ross, a washed-out TV star, and Bert, a famed musician, are kidnapped in bizarre ways by short men in numbered costumes, Batman begins searching for a link between the two. Eventually, he finds that they were both involved in a game show called “Think, Thank, Thunk!”. Ross was the host, while Bert was the producer. While researching the old show, he comes across several articles about Arthur Brown, a contestant who lost his winning streak after answering a question wrong. He was given a lifetime supply of Kremelos (a gooey chocolate bar), and left the show. Following his loss, his mother filed a lawsuit against the show, saying that Ross and Bert rigged it so that Arthur would lose. Bert and Ross won the lawsuit, and Arthur disappeared.

Thinking that Arthur may be the one who kidnapped Bert and Ross, Batman learns that a girl named Yelena is coming to Gotham for a chess tournament. As it turns out, Yelena was the one who was facing Arthur when he lost. Batman rushes to the tournament, where Yelena is facing off against a computer, with life-size chess pieces that are moved by professionals. Batman arrives just in time to watch as one of the pieces stands up and runs over to Yelena, grabbing her before making an escape. Batman ends up in a fight with several of the short, acrobatic men, and after a bit of a struggle, is forced to retreat when the police show up. The dwarfs in the numbered costumes all scramble away as someone drives away with Yelena as their hostage, and Batman chase them in the Batmobile but is unable to follow them once the dwarf's Mini go through the sewers (wich look as a reference to The Italian Job), which are too small for the Batmobile.

Batman decides to pay a visit to Arthur’s mother, and when he does, he discovers that Arthur still lives with her. Arthur, now calling himself the Cluemaster, has become monstrously obese, having lived off of the lifetime supply of the chocolate bars. After another scuffle with the dwarfs, whom act as Cluemaster’s bodyguards, Batman watches as Cluemaster finally reveals his plan to his three kidnapped victims. He sets them up in three booths, similar to those of the game show, and sets the rules. Whoever gets 3 points first, wins. But if they don’t answer correctly, the platform they are on is lowered closer and closer into scalding acid. As they are about to lose, Batman intervenes, asking Cluemaster a question he could not possibly know: Who is the Batman? Cluemaster has a fit, saying that Batman cheated, and eventually falls through the floor, and is knocked unconscious, just as his mother comes down to ask if they want milk and Kremelos.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Quotes

  • Cluemaster: (to Bert, Ross, and Yelena) The man you cheated. (removes his mask, but the three don't know him) Arthur Brown! From the show!
  • Ross: Well, may don't cut hair on grocery gills, but they sure cut prices. So I'm gonna cut to the chase, and cut the ribbon. Hey-o! By the power vested in me by the guys who cut me a check, I tv personality Ross Deren. Thank you, I declare store number 235 officially open. (cuts the ribbon before two midgets moved it) Huh? I always hated broccoli. (to the midgets) Ha! Gotcha!
  • Yelena: I said Bishop to B6!
  • Yelena: It looks like someone's idea of a reunion.
Bert: Well, someone better tell us what's going on.
Ross: Quiet, Bert. He'll hear you.
  • Ross: Psst. Bert, wake up.
Bert: What? What's going on? Ross? Where are we?
  • Batman: (after knocking a midget) Knight takes bishop.
