[edit] Synopsis
The beloved purple car, and his dog, Pep, star in their sixth game adventure. This time they're on their way to BJ Sweeny's Big Top Circus in Apple Valley, miles away from Cartown. However, along the way, a hungry goat devours their ticket, and now they have no ticket, or money for a new one! Fortunately, a friendly circus train named Roll-Along Cassidy is nice enough to give Putt-Putt and Pep a direct ride to the circus, saving them hours of driving. Once they arrive, Putt-Putt and Pep both have high hopes of getting into the circus, even without their ticket. They're in luck. BJ Sweeny the Ringmaster, himself, is having problems of his own. When his circus first moved into Apple Valley, just about everything was misplaced (including his eyebrows and moustache!). The circus's five main acts, Honko the Clown, the Flying Porkowskis, Phillipe the Flea, Reginald the Lion, and Katie Cannonball, and all the minor acts are having serious problems, and can't perform, unless someone helps them. Putt-Putt gladly volunteers to help, and Mr. Sweeny is kind enough to let Pep and him into the circus, even without their ticket. Now it's up to the purple car and his canine companion to save the big top before its opening night.
[edit] Characters
- Baby Jambo - a young elephant - After his debut back in Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo, he's back, only without his fear of mice. He and his mother, Mama Mombassa are working with the circus for the summer, and Baby Jambo has found a way to express his wild imagination - art! His artwork may not be Van Gogh-quality, but they're masterpieces in his mother's eyes. He can even paint Putt-Putt red, yellow, blue, green, purple (which you start off as), and orange.
- Bart the Peanut Cart - a peanut cart - Usually, the bags of peanuts that he sells cost less than a nickel, but whenever it's opening night, he gives them away for free...if you take on the Peanut Challenge and win.
- Belobrodnik Bear - a bear - He's supposed to be rehearsing his ballet dance for the big top show, but for some strange reason, he's itching, scratching, and disco-dancing instead. Maybe a look at his fur will clear his problems up.
[edit] Inventory Items
- Bag of Peanuts - A tasty treat, that Bart the Peanut Cart gives out for free on opening night...especially if you're an elephant...
- Bathing Suit - Not very regal looking, but good for a swimmer.
- Bouquet of Flowers - Beautiful for someone to look at, especially if you're a goat, and need a yummy treat.
- Cannon Plans - A very useful sheet of paper, perticulary for the Cannon Act.
- Circus Poster - In case you need to remember which main acts have been helped, and which haven't, this sheet of paper should do you good.
- Clown Nose - Clowns just wouldn't be clowns without a red, rubber nose. Maybe a red ball could act as one.
- Honkish Translation Book - This is one of the most useful books around, especially if you need to talk to Honko the Clown, since very few people speek Honkish.
- Juggling Club - With just a wave a magician's wand, a simple juggling club card, can turn into an actual juggling club!
- Large Umbrella - It could keep you dry from the rain, but could well also help one balance on the practice wire.
- Magnifying Glass - Very useful for looking atmicroscopic creatures, such as fleas, ticks, and mites. It can also be used to see non-microscopic creatures and items up close around the circus.
- Power Shake - With the correct ingredients, even the weakest of vehicles can lift a ton easily.
- Power Shake Recipe - When the circus moved into town, the famous recipe Pectoro gave Ivan, when the circus came to town, is now torn in half. The two halves are now separated and lying somewhere around the animal tent, and backstage area.
- Safety Net - It's what keeps trapeze artists safe. The Flying Porkowskis refuse to perform without it.
- Saw - Watch out! This untesil is so sharp-bladed, that it could slice a car's antenna! A cutting machine might be able to do the trick.
- Scrap of Wood - A triangle, square or circle; the shape of the hole in Francine's diving pool varies each time you play. But whichever one should do the trick.
- Security Forms - Hank the Security Car, will NOT let you go backstage, unless you have the PROPER signature, in triplicate on these forms.
- Small Umbrella - It won't keep you dry from the rain, or help you balance on the highwire, but it would make a fine tent if you're a very small creature.
- Trampoline - Great for pouncing around on, but be careful not to bust it if you're a heavy car...
- Tunic - Perfect for the King of the Jungle, but not for an 8,000 lb hippo...
[edit] Trivia
- This is the final appearance of Nancy Cartwright as Putt-Putt.
- There really IS an Apple Valley in Los Angeles, California. There is also another Apple Valley in Minnesota. There is most likely no reference to the Apple Valley in this game.
- Marvin the Marvelous and Hank the Security Car who are featured in this game later return in Putt-Putt: Pep's Birthday Surprise, only Marvin looks slightly different there than he does here.
- The circus train in this game, Roll-Along Cassidy, is most likely a spin-off of Hopalong Cassidy.
