Punanimal comes from a place called Puna. Punanimal likes Punani.

The word "Punanimal" comes for the Latin word Animale when ancient Romans travelled to South eastern asia (now Sri Lanka ) and discovered a man-eating leopard whose agressiveness was similar to the some males in ancient Rome.

The features of the Punanimal however resemble more those characterized by the main figure in the film Porco Rosso
