A numerically significant population of the Punjabi Muslims in Pakistan are descendents of Hindus[citation needed]. The prevalence of common Punjabi Hindu and Sikh family names among contemporary Punjabi Muslims of Pakistan is proof of their Hindu lineage. The continued prevalence of these Hindu Surnames in spite of the trend to trace ancestry to Persian and Arabic sources is also indicative of strong tribal affinity and kinship among these groups.
