The Punjab police is responsible for policing in Punjab.

After the British annexed Punjab in 1849, the Punjab police was created as a separate unit after 1861.The Punjab police was heavily involved in the operations against the Khalistani insurgency in the 1980s and the 1990s and has been accused of carrying out extensive violations of Human Rights during these operations. [1]

On Friday, November 18, 2005, six Punjab police officials were convicted in the 1995 abduction and murder of Jaswant Singh Khalra.[2]
