Puna is one of the eight Natural Regions of Peru. The Puna region is surrounded by high plateaus and andean cliffs. The region has a cold climate, and its name literally means "mountain top". It is situated between 3,500 and 4,100m above sea level. Morning temperatures are positive but at night it drops below 0ºC.

The flora includes the cactaceae and around lakes and swampy places, the cattail. People of this region cultivate barley, potatoes and maca.

Native mammal fauna includes llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and guanacos. Native bird fauna includes the condor, Andean goose or huallata, Andean flamingo or parihuana, Puna Teal and other wading birds.
