[edit] pummelo and pomelo
I've done an exhaustive search on the web regarding "pummelo" and "pomelo." It seems to me that all the web sites regard pummelo and pomelo to be the same thing. There was one website that said that at one point people tried to name the grapefruit as the pomelo, but grapefruit became a more popular name. Allentchang 19:59, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- Indeed, this distinction seems very suspect, and I could find no support for it anywhere outside of Wikipedia. — Pekinensis 23:22, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Merge into pomelo
There doesn't seem to be any reason to have separate articles for pummelo and pomelo; C. maxima and C. grandis are the same species (and C. maxima the current proper name, from what I can tell). It was a tough call as to which name to make primary; Google returned 57,600 English hits for "pomelo -wikipedia -encyclopedia" and 16,500 for "pummelo -wikipedia -encyclopedia", so I mostly arbitrarily decided to place it in "pomelo". (Also: "citrus maxima pomelo" 976, "citrus maxima pummelo" 546; but "citrus grandis pomelo" 638, "citrus maxima pummelo" 745. Can't win 'em all.) — mendel ☎ 01:27, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
