Pumpkinhead (rapper)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Diaz, better known as Pumpkinhead, is a rap artist who hails from Brooklyn, New York. He has released several albums to critical acclaim, is considered in the underground scene a rhyme writer and freestyler equal to peers like Aesop Rock and Pharoahe Monch, yet has thus far been unable to achieve mainstream success. He first became famous in 1998 with the release of the 12" single "Dynamic," which featured a backwards beat and Pumpkinhead's trademark punchlines delivered in a deep bass vocal tone. The single charted in College Music Journal but as would become symptomatic of his entire career the larger mainstream audience failed to pick up on it. A remix which reversed the reverse beat and featured a plethora of rap contemporaries soon followed, and Pumpkinhead continued to release underground singles. In 2003 Pumpkinhead tried to capitalize with the "Beautiful Mind" EP, again receiving praise for his work but little mainstream exposure. 2006 may finally be Pumpkinhead's breakthrough year as his new album Orange Moon Over Brooklyn has received the widest exposure and distribution of any album to date.
