Pump (shoe)

A 'pump' can mean many different types of shoe depending on the person using the word and where they are located.

  • In Britain it is one of many regional names for plimsolls.
  • In North America, pumps are usually high-heeled shoes, but can also be formal men's shoes.
  • A type of athletic shoe equipped with inflatable air bladders was known as a 'pump sneaker', often shortened to pump.
