Puffles are virtual pets that a player can buy in the MMOG Club Penguin. Puffles appear as cute, small balls of fluff, and there are a variety of colours to choose from. They're available from the Pet Shop in many colours, namely blue, purple, green, pink, black and red. At the Pet Shop, when walking up to the puffles or clicking the red book, titled Adopting and Caring for your Puffle, one can adopt a puffle for 800 coins by clicking on the puffle they wish to adopt and accept to purchasing it. If one clicks on the Yellow Book, the Puffle Catalog appears, from where the puffle owner can get furniture items for their puffles. Non-members have access to only blue and red puffles, while members may adopt any puffle they wish. Members may adopt up to 12 puffles, while non-members are restricted to only two. When a player logs out, each puffle stays in its current position (meaning the health, rest and energy levels are kept the same) and is exactly the same upon the next login. Health, Rest and Energy levels must be full, or almost full, for a puffle to take part in actions. To keep a puffle from running away, one must visit their puffle/s at least once per hour and look after it.

[edit] History of puffles

Puffles were added to the game in November 2005. There were originally four puffle colors: blue, pink, green and black. Purple (added in August) and more recently red puffles (added in December 2006) by Rockhopper (a fictional pirate character) were later made available for so-called adoption. Puffle names are no longer visible to others, because some players were giving their puffles bad names[citation needed].

[edit] Care and feeding

Puffles need to be fed with pet food. Snacks (cookies and gum) and baths can also be bought. A happy puffle will do a trick when given a treat. If not fed, puffles will not sleep, take a bath, or play, and will refuse to be walked. Continually neglected puffles will run away after you login four times. Puffles expect to be fed after a walk and will otherwise get upset. A recent change in Club Penguin is that each puffle will react differently to water; some will take a short bath.

[edit] Walks

Players may walk around Club Penguin with their puffles, who will also do a small dance when their player dances. If more than one of its Energy, Health or Rest stats is under 50%, the puffle will not join the player for a walk. Otherwise, walking a puffle may be done by going to one's igloo, clicking on the puffle's player card then clicking on the leash. When being walked, a puffle displays to the right of the penguin on the player card. Secret agents (only) will see their Spy Phone lying next to the puffle. Puffles may be returned to the player's igloo home, where they reside when not being walked.

[edit] Bathing

Players can pay for a bath for their puffle, which is taken immediately. Bathing raises a puffle's Health and Rest stat's. Each puffle reacts differently to the water. Some jump out very quickly, like the green and purple puffles. Others do activities in the water. For example, the Red Puffle surfs, the Pink Puffle snorkels, and the Black Puffle turns the pool into a sauna. The Green, Purple, Blue and Red puffles have wild and crazy hair after a bath.

[edit] Personalities

As of December 2007, the game features six different colored Puffles: pink, purple, green, black, blue, and red, and red was the newest and was found by Rockhopper, the famous pirate but kept only one to himself, who's name is Yarr. Only red and blue Puffles may be 'adopted' by non-members. The different Puffles each have their own fictional 'personalities', which includes different responses to being fed and washed, different toys, and different 'moves' performed when exercising. There were new Puffle play actions added on March 23, 2007.

[edit] Puffle Games

Puffle Round-Up is one of the Club Penguin minigames which has been part of the game since December 14, 2005,[1] with the aim of the game being to herd up the Puffles so they can be sold domestically as pets. As of February 2007, the game features all of the Puffle colors except red.

Thin Ice is one of the newer games. The object is to guide a black Puffle to the red block in the maze. The Puffle only looks red because it is on fire. Every block you step on will melt and you can't go back on it. If you melt all the ice in the stage, you will have "solved" it, and will have more points. As you progress in the game, you will see different tiles. The pure white ones can be stepped on twice, the blue ones can move, and the green ones are teleport panels. Also, the higher levels will require you to get a key to unlock a door. The game has 19 levels.
