Puckane
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Puckane is a village in northern County Tipperary, Republic of Ireland, lying 10km north of Nenagh and close to Lough Derg and Dromineer.
It has a population of about 1,000. The songwriter Shane MacGowan spent much of his childhood here and has immortalised a number of local places in his songs. The village was also mentioned in a well-known Christy Moore song.
It should not be confused with the eponymous fictional village in Spike Milligan's novel Puckoon, though the novel and the village were probably both named after Puckane.[citation needed]
It is also sometimes (though rarely) spelt as Puckaun and is known as Pocán in the Irish language.
