Prestige classes

In the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, Psychic Warrior is a character class first introduced in the Psionics Handbook. A Psychic Warrior is something of a blend between a psion and a fighter. Psychic Warriors augment their physical prowess with a number of psionic powers, mostly those that enhance the psychic warrior's offensive and defensive abilities in melee, through such techniques as precognition and psychometabolic control.

[edit] Comparison with other classes

Because the psychic warrior gains both melee abilities and psionic powers, neither of these abilities are as powerful as those possessed by more specialized classes. As such, psychic warriors gain BAB at a rate of 3/4 their class level, far less prodigious than a fighter's 4/4 BAB progression. Psychic warriors have a respectable Hit Die progression of 1d8/level - the same as clerics and druids; In contrast, fighters gain 1d10/level. Similarly, the psionic potential of a psychic warrior is considerably diluted - they learn one new power each level, unlike psions, who begin with 3 powers and gain 2 additional powers each level. In a manner consistent with other "secondary casters", the highest level powers attainable by Psychic Warriors are only 6th level, while "primary casters" can gain spells/powers up to level 9.

[edit] Feats

Psychic warriors gain bonus feats in the same manner as fighters, though at about 3/4 the rate. They can choose for these feats any fighter bonus feat, as well as any psionic feat, though they must meet the prerequisites for any such feat as normal. Many of the available psionic feats (i.e. Psychic Weapon, Psionic Meditation) are considered by many to be key parts of the psychic warrior's repertoire, though technically not part of the class.

[edit] Saving Throw Progression

Psychic warriors have good base fortitude saves and poor base reflex and will saves, though they generally have better than average will saves due to a high Wisdom score, as Wisdom is the primary manifesting ability for a psychic warrior's powers.

[edit] Skill Progression

Psychic warriors have a poor skill rate (2 + Intelligence modifier per level) and gain little from a high Intelligence score, and are thus likely to have little in the way of skill selection.

Class skills for psychic warriors are Autohypnosis*, Climb, Concentration*, Craft, Jump, Knowledge (psionics)*, Profession, Ride, Search, and Swim. The skills marked with asterisks (*) are introduced or expanded upon in the Psionics Handbook.
