Prudenville, Michigan

Prudenville is an unincorporated community in Roscommon County, Michigan, United States. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. The population was 1,737 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 9.5 km² (3.7 mi²). 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²) of it (23.29%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,737 people, 818 households, and 542 families residing in the community. The population density was 239.5/km² (620.1/mi²). There were 1,395 housing units at an average density of 192.4/km² (498.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the community was 98.39% White, 0.12% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.52% of the population.
There were 818 households out of which 18.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.3% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 30.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 2.58.
In the community the population was spread out with 17.6% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 18.9% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 28.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 52 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males.
The median income for a household in the community was $29,821, and the median income for a family was $36,313. Males had a median income of $34,135 versus $20,625 for females. The per capita income for the community was $19,018. About 9.4% of families and 11.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.4% of those under age 18 and 6.1% of those age 65 or over.
