[edit] WELCOME TO PROF.RICK'S PAGE...IT'S ALL ABOUT MUSIC!
[edit] ''What I Do..."
I am a pianist, composer, educator, author, and music theorist. Also an experienced Music Festival Adjudicator and Conservatory Examiner. (I have an "alphabet" after my name, but to me, this means very little.)
My involvement with Wikipedia includes contributions to Articles (e.g. Semitone, Octatonic Scale, Musical Notation, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, Sohmer & Co. and others.) In the background, I also enjoy Wiki "housekeeping", such as correction of spelling, grammar, awkward wording, and reporting/removing of vandalism.
GREATEST HONOURS AS A SOLO PIANIST: Performing as a soloist in concert series' along with such artists as Anton Kuerti, Lois Marshall, and Valerie Tryon. Canadian concert tours.
GREATEST HONOURS AS A COMPOSER: Having my compositions (pub. "Effel Pulications") used in University Music Programs as a tool for teaching 20th C. composition techniques; having my compositions performed for university "juries".
GREATEST HONOURS AS AN EDUCATOR: Teaching at Lakefield College School; Senior Piano Instructor of the former Peter Robinson School of Music, Trent University; training such musicians as Greg Wells [1] (L.A. music producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist), Erin Leahy[2], (pianist and composer), Jonah Cristall-Clarke [3], (Toronto-based jazz pianist), and numerous other professionals.
GREATEST HONOURS AS AN AUTHOR: The 5-part educational series, "You and Your Piano" (pub. "21st Century Music Publications"). Current projects include "A Fastlane to Sight-Reading" and "A New Piano Pedagogy".
GREATEST HONOURS AS A MUSIC THEORIST: Demonstrating Equal Temperament to be a natural tuning system; reconciliation of the Fibonacci Series with Equal Temperament; deriving the 1/16 tone of Carrillo as a simple 139/138 ratio; concepts for a new keyboard topography; concepts for a new system of musical notation; a SIMPLE formula for estimating the nth root of a given real number. Current projects: transposition of the orbital periods of planets and their satellites to musical frequencies; transposition of atomic resonances to musical frequencies; exploration of a possible new well-tempered tuning system, in which the sharp keys become increasingly brighter (more vibrant), and the flat keys increasingly darker (more mellow).
