Proximus Diamond Games
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Proximus Diamond Games is a professional tennis tournament held in Antwerp, Belgium.
Held since 2002, the tournament takes place in the Sportpaleis, Antwerp and is held at the beginning of February.
The Diamond Games offer a very special trophy: a golden raquet decorated with diamonds for the player who wins the tournament three times in five years. The raquet's value is an estimated 1 million euros. If Venus Williams had entered the tournament in 2006, she might have won this unique prize but she pulled back two days before the start of the tournament. Amélie Mauresmo won the trophy in 2007 after winning for the third year in a row.
In 2008 a new trophy will be presented that can be won under the same conditions. The new trophy will be even more expensive.
