Proving Grounds is a third season episode of Beast Wars.

Blackarachnia is growing steadily more annoyed with the tension between her and the Maximals. When she over hears Optimus Primal and Rhinox talking about the possibility of reprogramming her as a Maximal, she gets angry and takes off on her own. While brooding in a forest, she finds herself being stalked by the transmetal clone of Dinobot, who has an image projector to distort her; she initially takes to the chase with glee, but soon finds herself in over her head. Silverbolt goes looking for her and, upon finding her, becomes entangled in a fight with Dinobot, who tries to melt his head, but Blackarachnia reluctantly shoots at Silverbolt in order to get Dinobot off of him. As Silverbolt comes around, he sees and hears Blackarachnia trying to bargain with Dinobot by offering him the Ark access codes, but he tries to melt her head off as well. Using the image projector, Silverbolt manages to get the drop on Dinobot and shoots him off the side of a cliff, with some assistance from Blackarachnia. The two then argue about her trust, and she angrily reveals that she overheard his fellow Maximals discussing reprogramming her. Optimus arrives and after airing her grievances, Optimus explains to a stunned Blackarachnia that the option to be reprogrammed as a Maximal is her choice and will always be hers, as it is "the Maximal way." They return to the base, and she patches things up with Silverbolt.
