Providence Roller Derby or PRD (est. 2004) is the first all-female, flat-track roller derby league in New England. It is currently the only league in Rhode Island. PRD is currently ranked 10th in the nation and 4th on the East Coast.

Sarah “Doom” Kingan #4.0, a Brown University alumnus, established Providence Roller Derby in 2004. She originally trained with Tucson Roller Derby while on an internship in Tucson, AZ and after moving back to New England, her love of roller derby drove her to start the league. New skaters were recruited and trained for over a year before creating two teams — the Providence Mob Squad and the Sakonnet River Roller Rats — and holding the first bout in May 2005.

The league's second season, in 2006, marked the introduction of the Old Money Honeys, hailing from Newport. They had a hard fought season, losing in their first game with 4 overtime jams to the local favorites, the Mob Squad. However, their teamwork and dedication led to winning the championship at the end of the season.

The All-Star travel team, the Rhode Island Riveters, is also becoming more of a force. The team began to schedule more interleague games in 2006, winning against the Gotham Girls of New York City. They lost as visitors playing against the Carolina Rollergirls in Raleigh, NC. The travel team pulls the best skaters from each team, making it a power house of PRD members. The team plans to continue challenging other leagues, with games against Philadelphia and a rematch against Carolina on the horizon.

PRD also skates against the Boston Derby Dames about once a month in a casual scrimmage. It allows an opportunity for these sister leagues to learn new skater and ref styles.

Providence Roller Derby plays outdoors, downtown, in the heart of the city during the summer. With the support of the Mayor and the city at large, the team works to continue winning over fans with bigger and rowdier bouts. The league makes a concerted effort to be involved in and support community events and local businesses by making appearances, marching in parades, having fundraisers, etc.
