[edit] Academics
The academic grading scale of Providence Catholic grading scale runs differently than that of neighboring high schools. Its academic rigor also differs from some other schools as Providence is a college prep high school. This also means that certain vocational courses provided at other schools are not available, such as cooking, auto mechanics, and sewing.
[edit] Athletics
Providence has a total of 24 state championships in sports including; wrestling, football, girls track, baseball, cheerleading and boys basketball. This is more than any other private school in the state of Illinois.[citation needed] The wrestling team has 6 consecutive state championships from 1997-2002 making it the first Illinois wrestling team to ever achieve this goal.[citation needed] Matt Seffner was the head football coach from 1968 to 2005 and also holds the record for most wins as a football coach in Illinois.[citation needed] Mark Coglianese recently took over Seffner's position after he retired in 2005. Providence won 4 straight games: Bishop McNamara, Fenwick High School, Brother Rice, and DeLaSalle. PCHS beat the undefeated #1 seed of East St. Louis (11-1) at East St. Louis (11/10/06) [1]They claim nine state titles, the most recent in 2004, and boast the two longest winning streaks in Illinois high school football.
