From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Protohominids, even though there is little fossil record or evidence, refers to the earliest members of the hominid anscestral line. 7-5 m.y.a these early hominids would have displayed behaviors similar to chimpanzees of present. These earliest members of hominids were bipedal allowing them to carry objects, such as "naturally sharp stones or stone flakes, parts of carcasses, and pieces of wood."(Introduction to Physical Anthropology Tenth Edition)
