Proteus is a series of 2 episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series. It originally aired on September 30, 1995.

The episode begins with Moira MacTaggert and her partner (X-Men codename: Banshee) working on curing a mutant in their lab on Muir Island. The mutant (Proteus) is pained physically by the treatment and escapes. Moira then calls Professor X, shaken, and asks him for assistance. Wolverine makes a comment about her having sounded like she'd seen a ghost, to which Xavier (Professor X) says that in the 20 years he's known her, she's never sounded so worried.
Afterwards, Proteus, having not been allowed outside of the lab in his 17-year life span, is shocked and confused at what the outside world contains. Beast, Professor X, Rogue, and Wolverine all start looking for Proteus. Proteus discovers who his father is, shown to be Moira's ex-husband, who she had left Charles for, after which it is apparent that Moira is Proteus's mother. Rogue accidentally steals his powers, and almost levels a town when not able to control them, Wolverine tries to attack Proteus head-on, and ends up getting warped, ripped apart, and liquified by Proteus's powers (as Proteus moves away, Logan reforms, but is left a sobbing mess, due to the obvious physical and mental pain such a thing would inflict.). The episode ends with Proteus bearing down on his father's location, with a To Be Continued.

When Proteus discovers that his deadbeat dad is a prominent politician, he storms the Union Hall right in the middle of his dad's campaign speech on 'family values.' Proteus tells his father that he is his son, his father denies it and runs off in horror, crying for help. Angered at his father's reaction, Proteus creates havoc, but Professor X later calms him down, and he stops the rampage. Then he goes back to Muir Island with Moira MacTaggert.
