Prometric

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prometric is a U.S. company that possesses significant market share in the test administration industry. It is a subsidiary of the Thomson Corporation. Many important certifications — including the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination, Architect Registration Examination, and the USPTO registration examination — are all administered at Prometric sites.

The testing environments they provide are highly secure. Two forms of identification must be presented, including a picture identification. A notice to schedule from the testing authority must also be presented. The testing rooms themselves have video cameras recording the activity in every cubicle. No hats, watches, pagers, cell phones, or other equipment that could facilitate cheating are allowed in the testing room.

There are Prometric test centers in every U.S. state and territory, and in many countries outside the U.S. However, whether a particular test can be taken outside the U.S. depends on the testing provider. For example, despite the fact that Prometric test centers exist worldwide, some test providers have instructed Prometric not to offer the test at centers outside the U.S. Notably, this includes the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination and the Project Management Professional.
