Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Prom week Thursday at 7:46 PM the guys are in the basement and Eric is getting excited that the prom could be the first time he has sex with Donna. Hyde tells him the importance of setting up a hotel room early because even though spontaneity is important, going home early because of no plan is embarrassing, so he dials a hotel. Kelso comes in announcing that he is going to take Pam Macy to the prom because Jackie broke up with him. Fez asks if he can take Jackie, but Kelso tells him not to so he decides to take his English teacher, Ms. Kaminsky, because he thinks she likes him from all the nice comments she puts on his homework. Hyde doesn't want to go because he thinks the prom is stupid.

Donna is excited about the prom too as she tells Jackie, but Jackie is upset that Kelso didn't take her and she doesn't have a date for the prom. Kelso comes in and tells Jackie that he's taking Pam Macy. Jackie tells him that she's going with someone else better than him. Later Jackie is watching t.v. with Hyde and sighs and cries and convinces him to take her to the prom so she has a date.

As the prom starts Eric and Donna find Kelso and Pam Macy. When Pam goes to the bathroom Kelso tells them he's just trying to make Jackie jealous because he doesn't really like Pam. Fez date tells him she won't dance with him. Jackie comes to go get Hyde at his house and he gives her a pink carnation. Jackie tell him that she's learned that she doesn't need Kelso to go to the prom. Eric and Donna are slow dancing when Eric reveals to her that he got a hotel room so Donna says let's go. Eric takes Donna to the hotel and before going in a group of kids yell that they're going to do it making it uncomfortable for the both of them. They start to kiss but before making it onto the bed Eric sees a stain on it so he goes to the bathroom to get a towel and covers it. They start to kiss again and then the kids are blowing things up outside so they both agree to just go back to the prom. Kelso is dancing with Pam and Hyde is dancing with Jackie. Kelso and Jackie keep eyeing each other and when Hyde goes for punch Kelso is upset at him for taking Jackie. Hyde tells him that she's miserable and because they both want to be together they should just be together so they switch. Hyde leaves with Pam to go to his car and Kelso and Jackie reunite slow dancing telling each other how much they missed each other all the way till after the prom ends. Fez finally gets his teacher to dance with him.

Meanwhile Midge wants to start a business or work, which Bob opposes. She decides on possibly starting a greeting card shop with Bob's money. Bob eventually decides to just go along with it because he thinks a divorce would cost him more.
