Prokopyevsk

Prokopyevsk (Russian: Проко́пьевск) is a city in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. Population: 224,597 (2002 Census). The town is located at 53°54′ N 86°43′ E . It was founded in 1918 as Prokopyevsky settlement from the existing villages of Monastyrskoye and Prokopyevskoe, and was granted town status in 1931 under its current name.

Prokopyevsk is one of the main centers of the extraction of coking coal in the Kuznetsk Basin (Kuzbass).
