Project Rebirth

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Project Rebirth, Inc. is a non-profit organization using time-lapse photography that is currently documenting the day-by-day rebuilding of the former World Trade Center site in New York City. The project is directed by Jim Whitaker, President of Imagine Entertainment, the production company founded by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

Ten 35mm time-lapse motion picture cameras, situated in and around the site since the six-month anniversary of 9/11, will continue to shoot one frame of film every five minutes, seven days a week, until this historic reconstruction is completed. This technology will enable the public to view the entire reconstruction within a twenty-minute time span. The final film is intended for a future museum memorial installation.

In June 2004, The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (“LMDC”) announced that Project Rebirth would continue to be part of the consideration process for the WTC Memorial Center – one of only 15 institutions selected from a list of 120 submissions worldwide.

In the meantime, their Web site will enable people worldwide to experience and learn about the complexities involved in the rebuild as it occurs every day – in real-time – through the images captured by the cameras and the expert information provided by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the LMDC, and many others – from the FDNY to key members of the engineering and architectural firms overseeing the project.
