Project 02 is part of Google's expansion plan beyond the current estimated total of 450,000 search servers at Google[1]. Two of the buildings are reported to be under construction at The Dalles on the Columbia River on the Oregon side. A Microsoft researcher has reported that a scale model of this server farm, which he toured in Silicon Valley, contains only 10,000 search servers.

Construction was apparently soon to begin October 12, 2005.[2] Local officials say they cannot comment about the facility because they signed confidentiality agreements. However, the 30 acre site has buildings the size of two football fields—which would total 115,200 ft² or 2.64 acres (1.07 ha)—with two four-story-tall cooling towers.[3]
