Progresso

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Progresso is a brand of premium Italian food products, mostly soup, sold since 1949. Up until the 1970's, it was a family owned company. It is now owned by General Mills.

It is often seen as an upmarket alternative to market leader Campbell's soup, and as a meal replacement. The cans are larger than Campbell's and come ready to heat rather than being condensed, both of which helped them attain popularity before Campbell's released the similar "Chunky" line of products. Progresso soups are popular items at wholesale outlets such as Costco. While Progresso produces reduced sodium soups, being perceived as upmarket does not necessarily mean that any of their soups will be lower in sodium or more healthy than less expensive condensed soups.

Progresso also makes Chickarina soup, which comes in 19oz cans with pop-top lids. Chickarina has a chicken broth base, the other ingredients being pearls of pasta, chicken, mini-meatballs, celery and carrots.
