The Progressive Liberal Party is a populist and liberal party, now the ruling party of the Bahamas. It dominates the Bahamas National Assembly, with 29 out of 40 members, elected on a 50.8% share of the vote. It is led by Perry Christie.
The party was founded in 1953, before independence. Its first Prime Minister was Lynden Oscar Pindling. It governed from 1967 to 1992 and again from 2002. Its rival is the Free National Movement.
