Professor Hackle is a fictional character in the animated television series SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron. He is an elderly inventor who once worked at Puma-Dyne Labs designg weapons of mass destruction for the military. At an unspecified date, however, Hackle began to worry that history would regard him as a warmonger, and so turned his attention to building inventions that were not weapons. He ultimately resigned from Puma-Dyne after they turned his space exploration robots into walking war-machines, against his wishes. Hackle's first appearance in the series is in a flashback in the episode The Metallikats, where his robot servants find the bodies of Mac and Molly Mange washed up on the beach near Hackle's seaside home. Not knowing that the two are escaped criminals, Hackle takes them into his at-home laboratory and transfers their memories into hard disks which he uploads into robot bodies. He does this in the hopes of perfecting a new mind transfer technique that will be able to save lives in the future. But Mac and Molly escape from Hackle's lab and go on a spree of revenge, much to Hackle's horror. Hackle reappears, in the present, at the end of the episode to collect the barely functional remains of Mac and Molly after the SWAT Kats have destroyed them, taking them back to his lab with the intention of rebuilding and reprogramming them.
Hackle's other appearances in the series were in Metal Urgency, where he attempted to make good on his promise to reprogram Mac and Molly, then in A Bright and Shiny Future where a much, much older version of himself is encountered by the SWAT Kats in a dark twisted future where the Metallikats have taken over Megakat City with the help of the Pastmaster, and finally in The Deadly Pyramid, Hackle's sole appearance in the show without the Metallikats, wherein he gives the SWAT Kats Cybertron, a robot bodyguard, to help them against the Pastmaster.
