A professional society, like a trade association, is usually comprised of professionals who share a common bond or purpose because they work in same industry or share a common job function. These professionals (i.e. accountants, lawyers, HR specialists) come together and form a non-profit organization. Typically, the purpose of this organization is to help in the career development of its members through education, collaboration and networking.
