Product naming
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Product naming is the process of deciding what a Product will be called. It is very similar in concept and approach to the process of deciding on a name for a company or organization.
A lot of money and time is spent coming up with names for products and companies. Generally a unique and memorable name is sought. Some of the difficulties involve confusion with existing brands and trademarkability. Another difficulty is finding an available Internet domain names (see also cybersquatting). Market research and focus grouping may be conducted. Often an image consultant will be hired to help. New logos and marketing slogans may also be devised. During the dot-com boom many companies rebranded themselves as Internet companies be adding a ".com" or "e-" to their name. After the dot-com bubble bust, the surviving companies undid many of those changes.
